What do we have in common?

  • Favorite hair icon: 90s Julia Roberts — wild and big

  • Favorite hair tool: If I had to choose: cleansing conditioner and gel. Cleansing conditioner is light enough to use multiple times a week and doesn’t strip your natural oils, and gel provides hold and body whether I’m blowing someone out or air-drying natural texture.

  • Specialties: Curls and low-maintenance hair

  • Best part of client relationships: Their stories and perspectives! I learn so much about the world through them.

  • Favorite entertainment: I love all the media

  • Personality types: I’m a Taurus with a Gemini moon, ESFJ, and Type 2 enneagram

  • Favorite celeb couple: The Obamas

  • Fashion trend that needs to stay gone forever: Silver! It made everyone’s hair so sad.

  • Wise words to live by: “Empowered women empower women.”

More about me:

Emily has been a hairstylist in Portland since 2014. She attended beauty school at the Aveda Institute Portland, followed by an apprenticeship at Ginger Salon, where she worked for seven years before joining Lovesong. Emily has attended numerous classes, including Vidal Sassoon's ABC cutting course and Goldwell's Master Colorist. She is also a Kevin Murphy Session Stylist.

Emily was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and moved to Portland in 2012. She now lives in the Montavilla neighborhood with her husband, Sean, and their two cats and two dogs.

On the weekends, she's either home working on their fixer-upper, taking coffee (or wine) walks with the dogs, cooking, reading, podcasting, or binging the latest show. When she ventures outside, she's swimming or camping while enjoying Oregon's never-ending beauty.

Emily has naturally curly hair that she struggled to style until she entered the salon world. She understands what it's like to feel overwhelmed and intimidated by your hair, so her goal is to educate and make your hair approachable and easy on your life. While she specializes in curly hair, she applies this philosophy to any hair type. When you're in her chair, you can expect to feel seen and heard and to leave feeling prepared, refreshed, and ready to take on the world.
